“…I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13 NLT).
As we change our calendars, our memories are not erased like we would erase a hard drive. We do not actually forget the things that happened in the past.
I think “forgetting the past” means not to dwell on the past so much that it hinders our forward progress.
We cannot take a leap of faith with baggage.
Repent for the wrongs of the past. Forgive others of their past offenses. Ask for forgiveness for offenses you’ve caused.
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness” (1 John 1:9 NLT).
“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins” (Matthew 6:14-15 NLT).
Repentance and forgiving is “forgetting the past” and leaving the baggage behind.
Now press forward to what God has planned for you!
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope'” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).
God has good plans for our future regardless of the present circumstances.
“Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13 NLT).
Stand on the promises of God’s word pressing forward to what lies ahead for you!
Happy New Year!
